is Our Legacy

In 1988, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) put into effect universal precautions laws requiring all healthcare workers to wear protective gloves in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Chagrin Safety Supply (CSS) was originally founded in 1988 to assist in meeting the unprecedented demand for this protective equipment. CSS product lines soon grew to include other disposable personal protective products, such as masks and gowns.

In October of 2001, CSS was awarded the USPS master contract for the anthrax crisis, shipping over 200 million nitrile gloves to combat the  deadly bacteria once thought to threaten over 700,000 postal workers.

In 2003, CSS responded to the SARS crisis by shipping 1.5 million respirator masks to the Canadian Health Ministry in Toronto. Our work with the GSA earned us a top supplier rating of 97% by the Federal Supply Service (FSS).

Today, CSS serves hundreds of city, state and other governmental agencies. The recent COVID-19 crisis has prompted our pivoting from a company with a website offering over 300 industrial safety products, to a company fully-focusing new business marketing efforts where they’re needed most, on life-saving personal protective equipment; drawing on over 3 decades of trusted relationships with global manufacturers to secure difficult-to-obtain supplies.
